Kicking it up a Notch...
God has been dealing with me about our sign choir. There are things I am certain we need to do, and there are things I am not sure how to accomplish.
God and I have been brainstorming, and I will keep praying until I know for sure what to do about some things.
I know we need more credability...both in our church and in the community. To achieve this, I am going to enter us into some competitions and see if we can win some awards. That would help us get in the door of some places that may not even give us a second glance otherwise. It would also prove that we are a viable group and ministry. I'm not sure how many people take us seriously.
I want more adults in the group, I want us to do non-Christian events so God can use us, I want to do more in our own church. I have a group of people who really want to change the world for Jesus, and starting in our own back yard is a good idea.
The world is what we make it. So is our church. Go think about that....

Sign Choir
Hello. If you missed our sign language choir at Garner Relay for Life...you REALLY missed it.
This is an amazing group with hearts for God. They performed 4 songs and I was so proud of them!!
God gave us a good time slot, so many people saw us and that gave God some time to work in their hearts.
God has been faithful to this group and is blessing us every day. I have been told there is a competition for Christian groups and I am looking into it. Winning something would give our group credibility with non-Believers. It also may provide us with more ministering opportunities. :) That is what it is all about.
The only way you can change the world is ....if you go out and change it. Go think about that....

Obedience causes blessing
I want to say THANK YOU to a friend of mine who was obedient to God when she asked me to teach sign to her homeschool daughter.
She took the step of faith, and I prayed and took the step of faith. Now, God has given me many open doors and many amazing opportunites to teach and help provide for my family while also being available to my children.
Now, I find out several of my sign students want to do something with sign language as a career. Now, tell me that isn't God. You can't and even if you tried, I would not believe it.
God revealed to me that I was obedient to Him when I started the sign choir, and it led to sign classes, and that led to kids making life choices. It also lets us minister to the community and tell people about Jesus.
So, what I want you to remember is this: you may not know why God wants you to do something, but you should always do it. He does not have to tell you His plan...you should be excited to wait and see what He has in store for you. God uses us to touch others in ways we may not ever see....but He uses us just the same. Don't ever tell God no....for the obvious reasons...but also because He may need to you to make a life difference for someone else.
It is not all about you or me....it is all about HIM. Now, go think about that......

Good Things Happening
God is soooo good to me!! Of course, I could stop right there...but I won't.
God has given me a gift of teaching. God has also given me a love of sign language. NOW, He has combined them to allow me to teach sign classes to homescholars.
Next week, when my precious kiddos track back into school, I will begin my next class. How often do people get to do what they love, and make a little cashola for doing it? God knows I needed a job, and now He is providing me with one in which I can make my own schedule, so I can be there for my kids when they are tracked out of year round school. Now, that is love!!
I get that song in my head: OH, how He loves us so. Oh, how He loves us....how He loves us so!!! (David Crowder Band, fyi)
So, I know my Father loves me, cause He blesses my socks off!! How has God blessed your socks off? Go think about that......

Fishers of Men
Sorry it has been a while. Lots of things have been happening, of which I will post later.
But, for now, God has been stirring me up in the area of outreach. I am talking about right in my own town outreach. I am the director of my local church Sign Language Choir and God told me we need to focus on churches this year. He said that "the church" has become complacent, and He wants to stir us up. I pray He uses us to do that.
Then, we had a guest speaker two weeks ago. He ministers out west to native Americans. He told us that for three days, they give away clothes, shoes, and food to meet the needs of these people. Then, they give a concert, THEN they tell them about Jesus. He said they have to earn the right to share the Gospel. Than just affirmed what was already in my Spirit.
Our Pastor said he wanted to focus on outreach. I'm all for that. One of my buddies gave me some ideas for church outreach, and God gave me more. I am in the process of sending the ideas to my Pastor.
Needless to say, if God is really putting this on my heart, how many others in my church is He doing the same thing?
So, talk is cheap. That is my point. People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Sound trite? Oh, well. Truth hurts. No one wants to know how much Jesus loves them, if the ambassadors of Him don't care. Jesus was always in the middle of the scruff, feeding and healing, and loving.
That should be our shining example. Who can you minister in your community? Are you afraid? Then do it afraid. Go think about that.....

Homemade Biscuits
I finally found it! A southern biscuit recipe worthy of sharing. My daughter and I have been on a quest to become "Magnolia's" and be able to make mouth watering biscuits.
After 3 tries, here it is. It is a knock off version of Cracker Barrel, but yummy just the same.
2 cups self rising flour (I used White Lily)
2/3 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup shortening (I used Crisco)
1 tsp sugar
Cut shortening into flour until crumbly. (We used our hands)
Add buttermilk and form dough. On lightly floured surface, roll dough out to 3/4 in thick.
Cut with biscuit cutter into 3 inch circles.
Put onto ungreased cookie sheet, with sides almost touching, and bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes. (The original recipe said 8, but they were not done at 8)
You can brush melted butter on the tops when they come out, but we did not. If you make them too thin, they won't rise...so do at least 3/4 in thick.
Let me know what you think......

Politics as Usual...NOT
Hello.
Those of you who know me, know my Dad is running for county commissioner. I have been helping him campaign and it has been quite eye opening.
I remember when we all sat down to discuss him throwing his hat into the ring, I told him ,"Be honest and answer all questions. Do not evade the question or talk in circles. Everyone does that. You need to be different to stand out."
Well, he has done just that. It is the main thing he gets the most compliments about. He is genuine and sincere, and has the best interest of the people at heart. His desire to do the right thing comes shining through.
Trivia: women did not get the right to vote (yes, it is a right) until 1920.
Remember: Tues, November 2 is voting day. Don't forget, the surest way for evil to win is for good people to do nothing. Now, go think about that...
